Melbourne offers a myriad of possibilities for the visitor who enjoys new sights and sounds. From man-made attractions to natural beauty, Melbourne has something to offer all its visitors. Here are some of the most compelling reasons to go sightseeing in and around Australia’s cultural capital.

Wine lovers flock to Melbourne to get a taste of the Yarra Wine Valley experience. This area is known around the world for some of the best tasting wine. You can opt to do the tour on your own or to book a guided tour that will take you to all the wineries in the area. Of course, a trip to the Yarra Wine Valley won’t be complete without sampling their fare – both food and wine.

If you want to get a glimpse of the city of Melbourne from way up top, then you should not miss the Melbourne Observation Deck at the Rialto Towers. The Deck is located on the 55th level of the building and provides a breathtaking view from the top – giving you a whole new perspective of the city.

Nature lovers will be right at home even in city centre. This is due to the fact that the city of Melbourne has countless parks and gardens wherein you can walk around or simply sit and relax. The city is home to the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, which is considered to be one of the most important botanic gardens in the country. This estate is spread out over 36 hectares and has more than 12,000 different plant species on display. There are also many other gardens wherein you can spend a leisurely stroll in. These include Birrarung Marr, Carlton Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens, and the Queen Victoria Gardens.

Over 2,000 kilometres of coastline – that is what Victoria can offer you. You can opt to go and play in the powdery sands or take a dip in the waters. However, if you prefer to merely look on, you can also visit any of the 10 lighthouse complexes that dot the coastline. You can even opt to spend a night or so in some of the complexes and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves.

Do you want to feed your sense of adventure? Then visit some of nature’s most wonderful creations. One of the most popular attractions in Melbourne is Hanging Rock, which is actually an extinct volcano. Perhaps one of the reasons for its popularity is the mystery surrounding it. The visual pleasure of gazing upon this natural formation is enough reason for anyone to visit it, though. Other places from which you can gaze upon visual wonders are the scenic lookouts which are scattered along the Great Ocean Road. This road is dotted with lighthouses, lookouts, and viewing platforms which offer fantastic views of the Southern Ocean. It is also long this road where you can see the world famous Twelve Apostles.

Visitors with children should not miss the renowned Melbourne Zoo, which is home to more than 350 animal species. This zoo is located close to the centre of the city, making it accessible to everyone.
